Air India is canceling most if not all of its flights to and from the UAE this weekend, which is expected to seriously disrupt travel to India as the UAE is a major regional hub.
The staff at the state-owned carrier said no new bookings would be accepted for the foreseeable future as over 600 pilots with the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) union continue on a strike which began on April 27. Air India officials say they have no idea when the situation is likely to be resolved, and all flights to and from Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Goa were affected. Those who already booked for canceled flights are being found alternatives on other airlines, charter aircraft and larger planes where possible, but it has been an uncertain week for many waiting to learn whether they would be able to make their trips.
